The Gobi Desert and Eight Lakes

September / October 2026

Discover the Heritage and Natural Wonders of Central Mongolia

Join me on a two-week photography adventure through Mongolia’s awe-inspiring landscapes, where the vast Gobi Desert meets the serene forests and mountains of central Mongolia. This immersive photography workshop is designed to not only enhance your skills but also deepen your connection to Mongolia’s rich cultural traditions and the vibrant lives of its nomadic families.

This tour offers a unique opportunity to explore two distinct regions, each with its own unique beauty and heritage.

First, we’ll venture into the peaceful, otherworldly expanse of the Gobi Desert, where vast sand dunes, striking rock formations, and expansive skies create an atmosphere of quiet wonder. The stark beauty of this landscape will inspire both your photography and your sense of tranquility as you discover a place where nature’s power and stillness blend seamlessly.

Next, we’ll journey to the picturesque Naiman Nuur (Eight Lakes) area, nestled in the heart of central Mongolia’s high mountains. Here, you’ll immerse yourself in the nomadic way of life, learning about ancient traditions while experiencing the daily rhythms of life on the move.

Along the way, you’ll ride horses, travel with yaks, and participate in age-old practices that offer a rare glimpse into the sustainable lifestyle of Mongolia’s nomadic herders. This is not just a journey through Mongolia’s landscapes, but a chance to deeply connect with its people, culture, and timeless traditions.

Whether you’re a beginner or experienced photographer, or simply looking to experience Mongolia’s natural and cultural wonders, this tour will offer you unforgettable memories and a profound understanding of one of the world’s most remarkable destinations.

Come, explore, and capture the spirit of Mongolia.

Why Mongolia?

From the steppe to the snow-covered Altai Mountains and the vast Gobi Desert, Mongolia is a wild and rugged country with astounding natural diversity and ancient cultures that reflect the spirit and resilience of its nomadic peoples and their tangible connection with the land.

With a focus on photography and storytelling, join me on a photo tour to the remote, rural reaches of Mongolia and get to know the people whose livelihoods depend on their animals and the land that sustains them. These tours offer an authentic and culturally immersive experience with a true insight into the lives of the families we’ll meet.

The roads may (will) be bumpy and seemingly endless, and home comforts elusive, but for the not-too-faint-hearted I have no doubt that this will be an enriching and memorable experience, as it is for me each and every time I visit.
